The goodness of being formed in the Third Order of St. Dominic, also known as the Lay Dominicans, of the Dominican Family, is to develop Christians as mature, well-rounded Faithful that are living within the Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ, the four Pillars of Dominican Life and the charisms of St. Dominic.
These four pillars include prayer, study, community, and preaching. So key to this is living the Christian life as an apostolate, in other words, a life in Christ in living and spreading the Gospel. The Third Order, or lay people, are called to preaching and teaching in their respective secular vocations and personal lives; giving witness to Christ.
The objective of Formation in the Chapter, is to have each postulant become ultimately a professed member of the lay Members of the Order of Preachers; and to live with Christ in the charism of St. Dominic.
